HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REGISTER AS A TASO REFEREE IN THE BROWNSVILLE CHAPTER?
Referee must register with the State (TASO), the Local Chapter (Brownsville), and pay Assigning Fees.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO REGISTER AS A TASO REFEREE IN THE BROWNSVILLE CHAPTER?
Referee must register with the State (TASO), the Local Chapter (Brownsville), and pay Assigning Fees.
NEW REFEREES
- TASO State Dues: $85 (NEW REFEREE)
- Brownsville Local Dues: $30 (NEW REFEREE that registers in November 2023 or before)
- Brownsville Local Dues: $60 (NEW REFEREE that registers in December 2023 or after)
- Assigning Fee Deposit: $60 (to start)
RETURNING REFEREES
- TASO State Dues: $85 (RETURNING REFEREE that registers on or before August 2023)
- TASO State Dues: $110 (RETURNING REFEREE that registers on or after September 2023)
- Brownsville Local Dues: $30 (RETURNING REFEREE that registers in November 2023 or before)
- Brownsville Local Dues: $60 (RETURNING REFEREE that registers in December 2023 or after)
- Assigning Fee Deposit: $60 (to start)
DO I HAVE TO BE A USSF REFEREE TO OFFICIATE HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER?
No, you do not have to be USSF certified to officiate high school soccer, though USSF certification is encouraged. While the majority of the rules used in high schools are the same in US Soccer, there are a significant number of differences between the "Rules" and "The Laws of the Game." Everyday, except Wednesday or Sunday.

Brownsville Chapter officiates high school and middle school soccer games in and around the Cameron County and its surrounding areas, including: Raymondville, Rio Hondo, La Feria, Progreso, Lyford, Weslaco, Port Isabel, etc...
WHAT TIME ARE THE GAMES?
Weekly games start at 5:30 pm or 6 pm. Weekend games start at 8 am or 9 am.
HOW MUCH DO THEY PAY FOR GAME?
Average is around $60 per game (mileage is also paid). Game fees paid to the referees are set by the UIL/TAPPS. Visit our "Match Fees" page to see the most recent UIL/TAPPS fee schedule.
WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY 3 SEPARATE FEES BEFORE I AM ASSIGNED GAMES?
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE CHAPTER MEETINGS?
Chapter meetings are usually held every three weeks during the middle/high school season at the Brownsville Public Library. The meeting dates are posted in "Meetings and Trainings" Page.
DO I GET PAID AT THE END OF THE GAME?
Unfortunately, you don't get paid at the end of the game. The school districts usually pays you within 3 to 14 business days via check, direct deposit, or Arbiter Pay.

- TASO State Dues: TASO registration dues covers insurance, instruction, rules book, badge, etc...
- Brownsville Local Dues: Brownsville local dues are used to pay for trainings, arbiter pay software, maintenance of website, reservation of site of chapter meetings, etc...
- Assignor Fee Deposit: This is for you to get assign games by the assignor. These assignments are made in advance of the game being played. The referee MUST maintain a positive balance to offset those fees.
