SCRIMMAGE GAMES
Scrimmage Games for Season 23-24: December 8 - December 27
Account Credit - Not Payment
School Districts pay the chapter (not the referees) for scrimmages. Referees will be paid $6.00 for the first 8 games that they do. After the 8th game, the Referee will be paid $10 per game. In order for every referee to get credit for scrimmage games done, referees must submit Scrimmage Pay Form to the Treasurer.
Failing to submit Scrimmage Pay Form will result in referee(s) not getting paid.
SCRIMMAGE PAY FORM MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
- Teams Playing
- Location & Level
- Date
- Start & End Time
- Length of Scrimmage
- Total Amount due to BOSA Chapter
- Names of all Referees that referee the games
- Signature of Home Team Coach
Track your Scrimmage Games
Like any other assignment, be sure to keep an accurate record of your scrimmages. Although you will not be receiving payment from the school district for the game service, you will want to be sure that BOSA has credited you with the proper number of games you worked. Arbiter Sports can generate a report of all the games assigned, but it is always a good idea to track your matches on a different spreadsheet. If you see a discrepancy between your records, assignor report or what is reflected in Arbiter Sports, don't wait to correct it - get it fixed immediately.
DO NOT Accept Payment for Scrimmages from a School District
If you do get paid for the game fees from the district for a scrimmage, notify the treasurer immediately so we can straighten out our bookkeeping. Contact the school district and finance department and let them know what has happened and ask how you can return the check to them. DO NOT ACCEPT SCRIMMAGE PAYMENTS FROM THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. By doing so, you will be opening the school up to action from UIL. Those that sign for games and do not return check will need to pay back the complete amount to the chapter and pay a $20 fine.
Why do Scrimmages?
Many referees do not appreciate the value of scrimmages. Most active referees have just completed the fall season of USSF governed matches. Without scrimmages, it is very hard for a referee to shift from USSF governed matches to ones governed by the UIL Rules. There are very significant differences in all aspects of the game. If you think you can begin your season by simply showing up at a district competition and expect to get it right, you will surely have problems. Scrimmages give you a chance to apply the rule differences in a non-pressure environment, get a feel for coach and player interactions, and get familiar with the uniqueness of UIL soccer like the Dual System. Remember, you are a professional at your trade; invest the time to properly prepare for the season.
How many Scrimmage games do I need to do?
Each year, the Board will decide how many scrimmage games each ref must do (it depends on number of referees in our Chapter and the number of scrimmage games). For 23-24 season, each ref should do a minimum of 5 games.
What if I can't do Scrimmages due to work or other personal emergency?
The Board will decide on a fine if you don't complete the minimum games required.
RETURNING OFFICIALS THAT REGISTER AFTER SCRIMMAGE DATES WILL BE FINE $200 AND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE FOLLOWING:
- TOURNAMENTS
- MIDDLE SCHOOL GAMES
- JV GAMES
